In the year 2001 The University was classified as the "national” university of Kazakhstan. The university holds Rank 1in entire Kazakhstan and it is the oldest university. In present the university holds an enormous University complex with an outstanding infrastructure and modern multi-level system of continuous training of medical workers.

Kazakh national medical University trained almost 80 000 doctors of different specialties, high-level professionals who have made a significant contribution for the safety of life and people health. Currently, there are over 11,000 students studying there.

University history originated from 1930 with one medical faculty in Almaty. The medical institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in April of 1981 because of the great services and people's public health development.

The University has always an eminent a high level of practical training of students in a large extent associated with the presence of their own clinics, innovations in the field of science, education and collaboration with practical health care.

The university compromises a sum of medical courses under bachelor, master degrees as well as doctorate programs. There are more than 1500 faculty members working at KazNMLU, including more than 200 doctors of science, 130 professors, and mere than 500 candidates of science and 15-laureates of State prizes.

Monogement has Supervisory board, Academic and Quality Councils weekly meetings about the University administration, monthly meetings of department heads and students active bodies.

KazNmMU is the influential scientific educational complex, including 7 educational buildings, Centre of practical skills, testing center with 8 computer studies, a library (6 reading halls, book fund accounts 1065263 copies, electronic library, internet study with 120 places). Besides the Republican scientific medical library and 2 anatomical museums function on the base of the university.

The Centre organized teaching seminar "Teaching Excellence’ for young teachers aimed at exchange of experience. The seminar was held within the frame of educational project which is subsidized by The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs” of the American State department.
